SkyView
Since the first digital set top boxes were launched there has been the possibility of using them to collect data. They have memory and there is a return path. Return path panels have become an increasingly important part of television measurement around the world. Sky, started developing SkyView, the first panel of its kind in the world, back in 2003 and began using the data in 2006.
Sky's panel of 33,000 Sky Digital Homes is a unique research tool, combining viewing behaviour with actual brand purchasing data.
Sky View is the UK's largest single-source viewing panel. Single-source means purchasing and viewing information is collected at the same time from the same people.
How does it work?
The 33 ,000 strong panel has been recruited by Taylor Nelson Sofres. There are currently around 7,000 TNS World panellists within Sky View panel - so, we can look at actual buyers and their viewing across most product categories.
TV viewing for each home is constantly monitored and FMCG brand purchasing data is provided by TNS on a weekly basis. Each respondent on the panel fills out a short questionnaire once a year. This gives us lots of household information about non FMCG purchasing behaviour e.g. cars, finance, holidays and travel.
