The strain of endurance is taking its toll and the feuding survivors must make the crucial decision of whether to stick together or go it alone. With the stakes even higher what new problems will they face in their fight for survival?

Boardwalk Empire: Season 2

Sky Atlantic HD

Starts Saturday 8 October, 21.00

With season one of Boardwalk Empire nominated for a total of 18 Emmy Awards - including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Steve Buscemi) - season two of the Golden Globe-winning show looks set to really turn up the heat. Having gone to extreme lengths to tighten his grasp on the bootlegging business and keep Atlantic City wet, crime kingpin Nucky Thompson (Buscemi) has alienated his closest allies. As his brother Eli (Shea Whigham), former underling Jimmy (Michael Pitt) and mentor The Commodore (Dabney Coleman), join forces to bring him down, Nucky is going to need eyes in the back of his head to survive. Meanwhile, with their appetite for power whetted, mobsters like Arnold Rothstein, Lucky Luciano, Meyer Lansky and Al Capone wait in the wings, looking for the chance to grab a bigger piece of Nucky's pie. Picking up just a few months on from where last season's finale left off, Nucky finds himself the target of a federal investigation for vote tampering after his crony is elected mayor. Coupled with a bloody KKK attack on Chalky White's (Michael Kenneth Williams) bootleg warehouse, the suave and charismatic politician's grip on power appears to be slipping. Created by Sopranos veteran Terence Winter, season two of Boardwalk Empire will see HBO's universally acclaimed crime series muscle into some electrifyingly intense territory.

Two and a Half Men: Season 9

Comedy Central HD

Starts Monday 10 October

It's all change in the ninth season of Two and a Half Men. Charlie Harper is dead after falling under a train on the Paris Metro...or so Rose says...and Internet billionaire Walden Schmidt (Ashton Kutcher - That 70s Show, Punk'd, Dude, Where's My Car?) has stepped in to save Alan and Jake from being turfed out of the beach house they've called home for the last eight years. Walden Schmidt is a man with broken heart but at least he's packing a massive...bank account and Alan can't quite believe his luck when his sodden self arrives at the back door one fateful evening. It looks like Walden's going to need the Harpers as much as they're going to need him when the Emmy-winning sitcom continues on Comedy Central this October.

Rookie Blue: Season 2

Universal Channel

Sunday 2 October, 21.00

Last season, five rookie cops hit the mean streets for the first time. Now they're fully-fledged cops, but they still have lots to learn... Yes, Andy McNally (Missy Peregym, Heroes) and her inexperienced colleagues are back, and we're proud to be the first to broadcast their professional and private dramas in the UK. Andy is still trying to shake off the shadow of her screwed-up ex-cop father while forging her own path. Meanwhile, Traci Nash (Enuka Okuma) is struggling to balance work with motherhood and Chris Diaz (Travis Milne) realises that playing by the rules doesn't always help you stay ahead of the game. Dov Epstein (Gregory Smith) isn't quite as brash as he used to be and Gail Peck (Charlotte Sullivan) wonders if being well-connected could be holding her back rather than propelling her career forward. The drama continues in season 2!
