Fame in the Frame (New Series)
Sky Arts 1/HD
Starts Tuesday 27 September, 20.00
Master forger John Myatt returns for another series, painting his versions of the world's most famous and exquisite works of art, and replacing the paintings' characters with his celebrity guests. This series, Myatt welcomes British film director Terry Gilliam, comedian Frank Skinner, DJ Lauren Laverne, TV presenter Paul O'Grady, comedian and Private Eye editor Ian Hislop and actress Tamsin Grieg. Gilliam audaciously chooses to be painted into French Symbolist painter Odilon Redon's The Buddha (1904), depicting a Buddha standing next to an illuminated tree. Meanwhile, incisive editor Ian Hislop chooses the self-portrait of fellow satirist, political critic and editorial cartoonist William Hogarth. While Hislop dons Hogarth's cap and brown robes, Myatt is put to the test imitating the artist's 1745 work, The Painter And His Pug. Skinner challenges Myatt by requesting Van Gogh's Self-Portrait With A Felt Hat (1888). In a grey hat and blazer, the Three Lions singer takes his place patiently as the tortured soul who lopped his ear off later that year, while Myatt captures the swirling background of one of the most imitated artists of all time.
