Thursday 12 April

The 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. A cruise, following the original route taken by the infamous cruise ship, will pay tribute to the 1,571 people who lost their lives when it sank in 1912.

Saturday 14 April

Runners and riders compete for record prize-money in The Grand National. This year, entry requirements have been strictly tightened following two fatalities in the 2011 steeplechase.

Sunday 15 April

The Olivier Awards are presented at London's Royal Opera House. This year, Matilda and One Man, Two Guvnors are both tipped to pick up awards.

Monday 23 April

The London 2012 festival begins. The Cultural Olympiad will include the World Shakespeare Festival, and exhibitions from artists Damien Hirst, Lucian Freud and Rachel Whiteread.
