This section covers all information on HPTO, standard display, native ads and snapchat.

HPTO (HomePage Take Overs)

We have 2 main high impact formats available for our Homepage takeovers.

  1. Billboard (970×250) and MPU (300×250).
  2. Superheader (1024×115) and MPU (300×250). Wallpaper option also available (Desktop only)

Due to the responsive design of SKY’s websites we also require a 728×90 for tablet (portrait) and a 320×50 creative for any Billboard type takeovers for Smartphones.

For Superheader HPTO please supply a 728×90 and 320×50 creative to ensure presence across Tablets and Smartphones.

Creatives must be in HTML5 format.

Billboard
Formatting:

Dimension: 970×250
Format: RichMedia, HTML5
Frame Rate: Up to 24fps
No bandwidth detection allowed

Loading requirements:

Initial load: 150KB Max
Subsequent Polite Load Size: Up to 1MB
User Initiated Load size: Up to 1.5MB (animation/interaction) and 10 MB for Non YouTube served videos.
Total file size: Must not exceed 10 MB

Attributes:

No Audio, Video or action may be initiated on mouseover.
All Audio must be user initiated. Default state is muted. Audio On/Off control must be clearly visible.

Autoplay video must not exceed 30 seconds.
Video creatives must contain a clearly visible Play/Pause control button.
Must have a 970×250 back up image.

No synchronization allowed between Billboard and other HPTO ad units (MPU).
CPM Billboards will be capped at 2 per 24 hrs

Attributes:

Can auto expand on first load but must retract after 10 seconds. In all subsequent page loads the Superheader MUST be in the collapsed form.

Must have a 1024×115 px back up image.
Auto expansion capped at 1 per campaign lifetime. All subsequent loads must be click to expand.
Superheader must push content of page down.
Animation on other ad units must not exceed 30 seconds and 3 loops.
All Audio must be user initiated. Default state is muted. Audio On/Off control must be clearly visible.

HTPO Superheader ad

Video creatives must contain a clearly visible Play/Pause control button.
No synchronization allowed between Superheader and other HPTO ad units.
Only one streaming video allowed within HPTO ad units.

Additional units can be expandable; must click to expand. No mouse rollover or auto-expand.

Wallpaper can be part of take-over when a Superheader is in place. Advertiser can also choose to use a non-expanding Superheader.

ALL WALLPAPER/BORDER IMAGES ARE SUBJECT TO EDITORIAL APPROVAL
Creative Guidelines MUST be adhered to; wallpaper which does not meet these criteria will not be accepted.

Added Notes for Wallpaper:

  • Must NOT contain any text or be a solid block of colour.
  • Must be a complete image (i.e. must not frame the Leaderboard or page content).
  • Left, right and bottom edges of wallpaper image must fade a solid colour (ie White #FFFFFF). If the requirement is that it fades to a colour other than white then the new background colour of the page must be applied through the ad tag.
Ad Serving:

All Wallpaper must be 3rd Party ad served (JavaScript tags only, no I Frames) loading through the Superheader Ad tag.

Wallpaper is only available when a Superheader is in use.

We cannot run in a Leaderboard (728×90) or Billboard (970×250) for a Takeover with wallpaper.

Lead time: approved and functionally correct final creative/tags must be supplied 5 working days before the go live date.

Standard Display

We comply with the IAB standards for our display ads. See below for more information.

Standard display
HTML5 Specs supported by Sky Media:

Initial Load: asset files are immediately loaded when the ad tag is inserted in the page.
Recommendation: Desktop/Tablet 150kB, Mobile (mWeb or In-App) 40kB

  • Typical old/current specifications set this at 40kB
  • Web 2.0 allows for a more engaging user experience, without slowing down the Publisher page load

Politely Loaded: All of the creative’s subsequent assets are loaded once the host webpage has completed loading
Recommendation: Desktop/Tablet 2MB, Mobile (mWeb or In-App) 300kB

  • Typical old/current specifications set this at 150kB
  • HTML5 allows richer features, but requires flexible size restrictions
Supported HTML5 formats by Sky Media:

3rd party tags – The HTML5 creative will be stored on a 3rd party server

DoubleClick Campaign Manager tags (DCM inred) – A HTML5 creative hosted by an advertiser/agency using DoubleClick Campaign Manager

Self-contained HTML5 creative – A self-contained HTML5 creative in a single code snippet (you will have to insert any third party trackers onto the creative prior to publishing the creative and sending the snippet to Sky Media)

Sky Media does not support HTML5 creative bundles

Added Notes:

  • Z-Index must be 999 or below
  • Maximum of 3 animation loops only
  • Sound is optional
  • If Sound is required Sound On/Off control button must be clearly visible
  • Sound must be set to OFF as default and User Initiated only to turn sound ON
  • These specifications include any creative builds for Behavioural Targeting
  • Image only creative submission is accepted

Added Notes:

  • Expanded Panel must be a polite download
  • Expanded Panel expands over content
  • Expanded Panel must contain a well-defined “Close X” button
  • “Close X” button must be positioned on the right of Expanded Panel
  • “Roll over to Expand” creative must expand and contract smoothly for mouse over and mouse out
  • “Click to Expand” creative must remain expanded once user initiates expansion and only close once user clicks “Close X”
  • Sound and Video are optional

Overview

Sky Media definition of a native advert:

Branded content which gives value to the audience and editorial it sits within and boosts brand image and engagement.

A native advert should look and feel similar to the editorial content surrounding it and be relevant to the site audience. Key to its success is making your advert compelling and engaging for users to consume your video or editorial content and share it with others.

The in-feed native advert format is available on the following Sky Sports channel homepages as either;

          i) Desktop:

                            Thumbnail, brand name, headline and snippet with clickout

              or            Thumbnail, brand name, headline and snippet that expands on-click to a video player.

          ii) Mobile:     (Contact your salesperson for availablility)

                             Brand name and headline with clickout

              or             Brand name and headline that expands on-tap to a video player.

Thumbnail Guidelines
  • Thumbnail should be relevant and be contextual to the theme of the advert.
  • Do use a sharp, colourful and visually impactful image or photo with clearly defined borders.
  • Do not use a scaled down poster, solus logo, product shot or slogan.
  • Ad copy and text (eg CTA) should not appear on the thumbnail.
  • A brand logo should take up no more than 25% of the visible image.
  • Image should be supplied in 16:9 aspect ratio

Discover offers brands the opportunity to place 3V ads alongside best-in-class editorial content, to reach a contextually targeted audience. Sponsorship Takeovers are available and include a branded Title Card in addition to 3V ads, offering an opportunity to closely align with a publisher and its content during the opening animation of a specific edition.

Snapchat devices
Requirements
  • Letter-boxing (borders of any kind) is not permitted. Video must be vertical and full-screen.
  • Video must be 10 seconds or less.
  • Must include sound throughout the entirety of the video.
  • Content must be approved for a general audience.
  • No still images or animated .GIFs.
  • Ads that feature the Snapchat logo, or imitate organic content, including Snapchat-style captions, doodles, and filters are not permitted.
  • Ads that promote an organic account on Snapchat are subject to creative approval from Snapchat team per guidelines.
  • Text, logos, and other messaging cannot cover or distract from video content. Text also can’t be static on the screen for more than 3 seconds.
Best Practices
  • The first two seconds are essential! Use the most engaging content up front.
  • Snapchatter’s volume may be off. Don’t rely too heavily on voiceover.
3V Ad Specifications
  • length: Up to 10sec. canvas: 1080px X 1920px
  • format: H.264, .mp4, .mov file size: 32mb or less

Snapchat crops creative for various device sizes. No text or logos should appear within the selected buffer zones, as cut-off will occur on smaller devices. Choose from the following cropping options:

Title Card Integration

(available only with Sponsorship Takeover)

Title Card Integration places advertiser branding into the publisher’s opening animation, offering an opportunity to closely align with a publisher and its content in a specific edition. Title card integration takes the following form:
