HPTO (HomePage Take Overs)

There are two main high impact formats available for Homepage takeovers: Billboard and Superheader

All formats:

  • Creative must be in HTML5 format – we do not accept HTML5 Creative Bundles
  • We cannot run a Leaderboard (728×90) or Billboard (970×250) for a Homepage Takeover with Wallpaper
  • Lead time: Approved and functionally correct final creative/tags must be supplied 5 working days before go live date
  • All Audio must be user initiated, default sate is muted. Audio On/Off control must be clearly visible and Video creatives must contain a clearly visible Play/Pause control button.
  • No synchronisation allowed between Billboard and other HPTO ad units (MPU)

Billboard:

  • Billboard (970×250) and MPU (300×250)
  • Due to the responsive design of Sky’s websites we require a 728×90 for Tablet and a 300×250 for Mobile Web and App.
  • No audio, video or action may be initiated on mouseover
  • Autoplay video must not exceed 30 seconds

Reporting Metrics:

  • Ad Impressions only
  • No fourth-party calls

Billboards

Billboards

We comply with the IAB standards for our display ads. See below for more information.

Attributes:
  • No Audio, Video or action my be initiated on mouseover. All Audio must be user initiated, default state is muted, audio On/Off control must be clearly visible.
  • Autoplay video must not exceed 30 seconds. Video creative must contain a clearly visible Play/Pause control button.
  • 970×250 back-up iamge is required
  • No synchronisation allowed between Billboard and other HPTO ad units (MPU)
  • CPM Billboards will be capped at 2 per 24 hours
Reporting metrics:
  • Ad impressions only
  • No fourth-party calls

Standard Display

We comply with the IAB standards for our display ads. See below for more information.

Standard display
HTML5 Specs supported by Sky Media:

Initial Load: asset files are immediately loaded when the ad tag is inserted in the page.
Recommendation: Desktop/Tablet 150kB, Mobile (mWeb or In-App) 40kB

  • Typical old/current specifications set this at 40kB
  • Web 2.0 allows for a more engaging user experience, without slowing down the Publisher page load

Politely Loaded: All of the creative’s subsequent assets are loaded once the host webpage has completed loading
Recommendation: Desktop/Tablet 2MB, Mobile (mWeb or In-App) 300kB

  • Typical old/current specifications set this at 150kB
  • HTML5 allows richer features, but requires flexible size restrictions
Supported HTML5 formats by Sky Media:

3rd party tags – The HTML5 creative will be stored on a 3rd party server

DoubleClick Campaign Manager tags (DCM inred) – A HTML5 creative hosted by an advertiser/agency using DoubleClick Campaign Manager

Self-contained HTML5 creative – A self-contained HTML5 creative in a single code snippet (you will have to insert any third party trackers onto the creative prior to publishing the creative and sending the snippet to Sky Media)

Sky Media does not support HTML5 creative bundles

Added Notes:

  • Z-Index must be 999 or below
  • Maximum of 3 animation loops only
  • Sound is optional
  • If Sound is required Sound On/Off control button must be clearly visible
  • Sound must be set to OFF as default and User Initiated only to turn sound ON
  • These specifications include any creative builds for Behavioural Targeting
  • Image only creative submission is accepted

Ad Serving: Publisher or 3rd Party ad served allowed (JavaScript tags or image and anchor tags only, no I Frames).

Lead time: approved and functionally correct final creative/tags must be supplied 5 working days before the go live date

PLEASE NOTE THAT SKY CANNOT HOST EXPANDABLE CREATIVES – IT MUST BE 3rd PARTY SERVED. 

Added Notes:

  • Expanded Panel must be a polite download
  • Expanded Panel expands over content
  • Expanded Panel must contain a well-defined “Close X” button
  • “Close X” button must be positioned on the right of Expanded Panel
  • “Roll over to Expand” creative must expand and contract smoothly for mouse over and mouse out
  • “Click to Expand” creative must remain expanded once user initiates expansion and only close once user clicks “Close X”
  • Sound and Video are optional
  • If Video is required it must contain Play/Pause control button that is clearly visible
  • If Sound required must contain Sound On/Off control button that is clearly visible

Creative Guidelines & Specs

Discover offers brands the opportunity to place 3V ads alongside best-in-class editorial content, to reach a contextually targeted audience. Sponsorship Takeovers are available and include a branded Title Card in addition to 3V ads, offering an opportunity to closely align with a publisher and its content during the opening animation of a specific edition.

Requirements
  • Letter-boxing (borders of any kind) is not permitted. Video must be vertical and full-screen.
  • Video must be 10 seconds or less.
  • Must include sound throughout the entirety of the video.
  • Content must be approved for a general audience.
  • No still images or animated .GIFs.
  • Ads that feature the Snapchat logo, or imitate organic content, including Snapchat-style captions, doodles, and filters are not permitted.
  • Ads that promote an organic account on Snapchat are subject to creative approval from Snapchat team per guidelines.
  • Text, logos, and other messaging cannot cover or distract from video content. Text also can’t be static on the screen for more than 3 seconds.
Best Practices
  • The first two seconds are essential! Use the most engaging content up front.
  • Snapchatter’s volume may be off. Don’t rely too heavily on voiceover.
3V Ad Specifications
  • length: Up to 10sec. canvas: 1080px X 1920px
  • format: H.264, .mp4, .mov file size: 32mb or less

Snapchat crops creative for various device sizes. No text or logos should appear within the selected buffer zones, as cut-off will occur on smaller devices. Choose from the following cropping options:

Title Card Integration

(available only with Sponsorship Takeover)

Title Card Integration places advertiser branding into the publisher’s opening animation, offering an opportunity to closely align with a publisher and its content in a specific edition. Title card integration takes the following form:

  • length: Up to 5 seconds
  • format: H.264, .mp4, .mov
  • canvas: 1080px X 1920px

Publisher’s animated logo followed by a smaller animated “presented by” or “sponsored by” logo.

We support the ‘Coalition for Better Ads’ initiative to create a better user experience on desktop and mobile web. As such, all our ad formats and creative specifications fall within and must adhere to the Better Ads Standards as defined here.
