Sony Pictures Television Networks (SPTN) recently announced that its hugely popular kids channel, POP, remains the leading children’s commercial channel in the UK according to figures from BARB.
SPTN’s kids’ channels including POP, Tiny Pop and POP MAX reach a combined two million children per month with a large and diverse roster of kids shows such as Alvinnn!!! And The Chipmunks, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, Power Rangers: Ninja Steel, Transformers: Rescue Bots and Lego Nexo Nights which make up POP’s top 5 biggest reaching titles.
POP’s eclectic range of shows has meant that the channel appeals to both boys and girls across the board, with no gender specific skew. New content like Zak Storm, Voltron and Hanazuki, brands which exist beyond the linear channel with their own product lines, have helped us diversify even more than ever before and have undoubtedly played a part in the continued success of the channel. It’s not just the new content either, POP’s longest running series’ like Power Rangers, Alvinnn!!! and the Chipmunks And Pokémon still continue to appeal to our dedicated audience and consistently rate highly on the channel.
Meanwhile, sister channel Tiny Pop has also seen a steady growth in viewing year-on-year in ages 4-6 years. The launch of the incredible POP FUN app – a free digital destination for the three channels – has also helped to grow audiences in the digital market with almost 70,000 downloads since it launched on 7th December 2017.
Kate Marsh, executive vice president, Western Europe, International Networks, said: “Our goal is to deliver the best possible content to children across the country, so we’re glad to hear that we are still achieving this goal as the no.1 commercial kids channel in the UK. With lots of brand new content secured for 2018, we are looking forward to another successful year of bringing new and exciting entertainment to kids across the UK.”
