World’s First Crowdfunded TV channel launches to inspire good

Channel aims to inspire people to do more in their lives and for those around them

Together, the world’s first crowdfunded TV channel that aims to inspire people to do good, has launched on Freeview 93, Sky 539, Virgin 269 and freesat 164.

Funded by more than 200 individual shareholders and donors including Sky, Big Lottery Fund, Barrow Cadbury Trust, public broadcasters, Unltd and Social Investment Business, Together celebrates the best of British people and communities through a mix of original content and loved classics.

Together’s content, focused on three strands of Make Together, Better Together and Get Together, wants to encourage viewers to, take up healthier lifestyles, get into arts and crafts and take part in more community activities.

Working with impact partners Project Dirt, Grow Wild, Get Creative, and V•Inspired the channel will connect viewers to inspirational community projects highlighting opportunities to do more and do good.

Launch programmes include UK premier of series Winners’ Circle exploring the lives of the beautiful games’ biggest stars and feel good series Mary’s Silver Service in which Mary Portas gets retirees back into the workforce.

The channel’s quirkier content includes YouTube sensation Humza Arshad’s series Wild Wild Web in March celebrating the good and bad of internet culture, video clips and dank memes.

Later in the year, the channel will include the premier of ground-breaking, life-affirming observational documentary series The Hospice set amongst patients and staff in a Gravesend hospice where life is fiercely celebrated.

By celebrating the great real-life stories we hope to encourages viewers to be all they can be, and connect them with ways to do more for their community.”

Online Together is launching digital partnerships with Facebook, YouTube, DailyMotion, and Little Dot Studios, bringing long-form on-demand to VOD to the channel’s website at www.togethertv.com, partner platforms and leading catch-up services, along with snappy short-form content on Facebook and YouTube.

Together is from the makers of Community Channel, a TV channel launched on Sky in 2000 and over 17 years expanded to 24-hour broadcast across all the main TV platforms following extensive support by public service broadcasters, platform operators, TV channel groups and digital publishers.

A successful crowdfunding campaign in 2016 secured the channel’s charitable Community Benefit Society status making it the first member-owned national TV channel in the world. The Community Channel continues to own and operate Together with support from the media industry and the community, voluntary and charity sectors.
