The Opportunity

Sky Sports will once again be the exclusive home of the best southern hemisphere rugby union in 2017, with exclusive live coverage of Super Rugby, The Rugby Championship, Mitre 10 Cup and Currie Cup. An exciting opportunity presents itself for a brand to align with these premium rugby union properties that have high reach and frequency amongst ABC1 Men, across Sky Sports’ acclaimed broadcast, online, mobile and VOD platforms.

The Content

Considered by many to be the standard by which all other club rugby union competitions must aspire to reach, Super Rugby is famed for its skill and competitive nature that makes it a fascinating spectacle to watch each week. It was Beauden Barrett’s Hurricanes who reigned victorious in 2016, winning their maiden Super Rugby title with a one-sided 20-3 victory over the Lions. Whilst Barrett took many of the plaudits for being the tournament’s top points scorer, it was the teams heroic defensive effort that underpinned the match winning performance with the Hurricanes not conceding a try in the quarter finals, semi-finals and final.

Outside of the World Cup, the Rugby Championship is viewed by many to be the premier tournament in international rugby union. The 2016 Rugby Championship was the fifth addition of the expanded tournament, contested between Argentina, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. Following their World Cup triumph at Twickenham last year, New Zealand’s imperious form showed no sign of relenting in 2016, as the All Blacks cruised to a record margin win to further cement their place as the sport’s most dominant force.

At domestic level, the Mitre 10 Cup and Currie Cup provide the best of the action from New Zealand and South Africa respectively. Dating back to 1889, the Currie Cup is steeped in tradition and is a staple event on the world rugby union calendar, whilst the Mitre 10 Cup features the top 14 provincial unions from across New Zealand.

SANZAR Rugby Union in 2017 is set to be the most competitive yet. Sky Sports will be on hand to exclusively show all of the action, live, on the go, and all in stunning HD.
